What are the adrenal glands?
The adrenal glands are small but extremely important organs that are in the upper area of the kidneys. Anatomically they are divided into two areas: the outer bark (Cortex) and the inner mark (Medulla). While the cortex produces hormones such as cortisol, aldosterone and androgens, the mark is mainly responsible for the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones not only control our metabolism and blood pressure, but also help us to react quickly in stressful situations. The adrenal glands weigh only about 5 to 15 grams and are just 4 cm long, 4 cm thick and 2 cm wide - about the size of a walnut. They even differ in their form: the right adrenal gland is triangular, while the left looks more like a crescent moon. The adrenal glands are embedded in a protective fat layer, which they covered up with the kidneys. The right adrenal gland lies close to the liver, the diaphragm and a large hollow vein, while the left is more based on the stomach and a connective tissue structure called Bursa Omertalis.

Adrenal glands and hormones
The adrenal cortex are primarily responsible for steroid hormones, which are also known as corticoids or corticosteroids. Two of the most important hormones that are produced here are:
Cortisol- the stress and guard hormone
Cortisol is important in our metabolism, because it supplies the brain with glucose so that we remain concentrated and efficient. At the same time, it supports the reduction of fat and protein. In the short term it can boost the immune system, but with permanently increased values, it dampens the body's defense and inhibits inflammation. As an important stress hormone, Cortisol ensures that we remain efficient in challenging situations and do not exhaust them immediately. It also controls our day-night rhythm: it keeps us awake and attentive during the day, while his opponent Melatonin from the stone gland ensures relaxation and good sleep in the evening.
Aldosterone- the blood pressure and water balance regulators
Aldosterone is significantly involved in controlling blood pressure and salt and water balance. It ensures that sodium is absorbed into the blood from food, which increases the blood volume and the blood pressure can be regulated. At the same time, it helps to excrete excess potassium through the urine. A balanced Aldosterone level is important for a stable circulatory function and a healthy mineral balance.
The adrenalmark produces a different kind of hormones than the adrenal cortex - the so -called catecholamines. These work particularly quickly and are crucial for our reaction to stress. The three most important are:
Adrenaline & Noradrenalin - the flash reaction on stress
These two hormones make us more powerful in seconds, especially in emergency situations. Whether in the event of sudden danger or a quick escape reflex - adrenaline and noradrenaline get into the bloodstream within a very short time and act directly on the whole body. They accelerate the heartbeat, increase blood pressure, expand the bronchi for more oxygen, increase blood sugar levels for a quick energy kick and reduce digestion in order to bundle all forces to the current challenge. Welding production is also stimulated - a natural mechanism to protect the body from overheating.
Dopamine - the motivational booster & mood upheller
Dopamine is a special case because it is not a hormone, but a neurotransmitter, i.e. a nerve messenger. Nevertheless, it belongs to the group of catecholamines because it is a preliminary stage of adrenaline and noradrenaline and thus indirectly also influences the heart and circulation. However, its effect in the brain is much more important: dopamine increases the motivation, the drive and ensures a positive mood - hence the name "happiness hormone". It activates the reward system and therefore also plays a role in the development of addictive behavior. A balanced dopamine level is important for well -being, concentration and joie de vivre.

Adrenal ceremonies
In addition to stress, other factors are discussed as possible causes of adrenal weakness:
- Virus or bacterial infections
- Autoimmune diseases
- Physical stress due to accidents or injuries
- Food intolerances
- Intestinal flora light weight (dysbiosis)
- Load from pollutants or environmental toxins
How is adrenal weakness diagnosed?
The symptoms of adrenal weakness are often non -specific and resemble other diseases such as burnout, depression or thyroid problems. Therefore, it is usually not recognized as an independent diagnosis in conventional medicine.
However, there are some alternative tests that can provide evidence of a weakened adrenal function:
1. Cortisol day profile (saliva test)-several saliva samples show whether the natural cortisol rhythm is disturbed.
2. DHEA test (saliva or blood)-a low value can indicate adrenal weakness.
3. Darmflora check-disorders such as leaky goods or candida infestation can affect the hormones.
4. Questionnaire for self -diagnosis - questions about stress, energy level and nutrition help with the assessment.
5. Pupillent test - light up with a flashlight: If the pupil is not narrowed, this could indicate a weakness.
6. Blood pressure and skin test- low blood pressure or slow skin backing after pressure are possible signs.
Difference between adrenal weakness and adrenal insufficiency
A distinction can be made between adrenal weakness and the officially recognized adrenal insufficiency. The latter is a serious illness in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones, which leads to symptoms such as weight loss, low blood pressure and hyperpigmentation of the skin. This insufficiency requires medical treatment. In order to rule out a more serious illness such as Addison's disease, conventional medical tests (cortisol, acth, electrolyte) and an ACTH stimulation test can be carried out.

Adrenal ceremony and histamine intolerance
There are also relationships between adrenal weakness and histamine intolerance. If your adrenal glands are weakened, your body can dismantle histamine worse - and if you have too much histamine in the body, your adrenal glands will be additionally loaded.
As already mentioned, our adrenal glands also produce cortisol - a hormone that not only makes us efficient, but also helps to reduce excess histamine. As long as everything runs smoothly, our body ensures a healthy balance. But when stress becomes permanent state - be it too much work, lack of sleep, emotional stress or even undetected food intolerances - the adrenal glands have to constantly distribute cortisol. The problem: At some point you will no longer come after and the cortisol production drives down. And this is exactly where the sticking point is: If there is too little cortisol in the body, histamine is broken down. This can accumulate the histamine, which reinforces the typical symptoms of histamine intolerance. At the same time, histamine overflowing in the body provides additional stress reactions - and puts the adrenal gland even more under pressure.
