Normally, the body's buffer system neutralizes excessive acids. This optimal acid-base balance is an important prerequisite for healthy cell and organ functions.

If this optimal balance is except balance, the pH changes. Our body can compensate for a short -term shift very well. However, if the ratio shifts extremely or permanently in the acid direction, then one speaks of acidification.

Acid -forming foods do not mean those that taste acidic, but those from which acidic chemical compounds form in the digestive process. The most common acid -forming foods are meat, fish, dairy products, grain, sugar, alcohol and caffeine. Diagnostic procedure

With a simple urine test, you can hardly determine whether you are "overacidated", since this test only measures the current pH of the urine and does not provide any statement about the entire acid-base status in the body. The current pH value depends more on what was eaten and drunk and how well the buffer system has excreted the acids. The Sander method is somewhat more meaningful: five urine samples are examined for their pH and their acidic/basic components. From this, the average acid quotient is calculated, which indicates the buffer capacity of the urine and thus the acid load on the body. Another option is the gathering urine examination. Here urine is collected for 24 hours and then analyzed as a whole on all relevant acid-base excretion products. However, this is complex and is not offered or implemented by many medical practices. It is also possible to test the buffer capacity in the blood. A reduction in the buffer capacity with normal pH is called latent acidosis and is an early warning signal for many modern metabolic diseases.

There is usually no treatment without a clear diagnosis. However, it can make sense to take a closer look at your own lifestyle. Perhaps habits crystallize that can indicate acidification:

  • For example, do you eat excessive sugar and meat and often have stress in everyday life?
  • Do you mainly eat industrially processed food (baking and pasta, processed fats and oils, meat and sausage products, dairy products made of homogenized milk)?
  • Are you consuming lifting poisons such as caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and table salt?
  • Do you move too little
  • You sleep too little
  • Do you use chemical -polluted cosmetics and household cleaners?
  • Are you increasingly exposed to environmental poison (bad drinking water, living textiles, building materials)?

Then you can also suffer from acidification in addition to histamine intolerance.

Over acidified - what now?

If you have been tested for acidification or even the suspicion of it due to your lifestyle, fortunately there are some things that you can do on your own.

Base fasting
Acid -forming foods are avoided in base fasting. This mainly affects meat, fish, dairy products, grain, sugar, alcohol and caffeine, but also finished products with their numerous additives. You can find detailed food lists on this on the net. Base fasting is a good start for changing your diet towards more healthy vegetable foods and away from an excess of animal products. A diet that mainly consists of animal products can favor cardiovascular problems, rheumatism and gout. However, base fasting should not take longer than 14 days, since you do without many other nutrient -rich foods such as whole grain products. Full grain and lots of vegetables also have a positive effect on your digestion due to their high fiber content. You should drink enough still water and unsweetened teas.

Base baths

Basic body care
