Inhalative allergies - when the air becomes an enemy
You probably know it: your nose is running, your itching and breathing is difficult for you. What sounds like a simple cold can actually be an inhalative allergy. Your body reacts to actually harmless fabrics in the air - such as pollen, house dust mites or mold - with an overreaction of the immune system. But what exactly is behind it? Which symptoms can occur, and above all: what can you do about it? Here you get all the important information!
What are inhalative allergies?
Inhalative allergies affect the respiratory tract and can manifest themselves through runny nose, clogged nose, sneezing or even asthma. Some people only have seasonal symptoms (e.g. hay fever through pollen), while others have problems all year round - for example through dust mites or mold.
Typical triggers for all year round complaints:
- Dust mites
- Cockroach
- Mold
Seasonal allergens & pollen flight times:
- Hasel (February)
- Erle (March)
- Birch (April)
- Gräser & Roggen (May - July)
- Mugwort (August - September)
- Ragweed (late August - September)
But new allergens such as rapeseed pollen are getting to the fore more and more!

Cross reactions
Have you ever noticed itching in your mouth or a swollen tongue after eating apples, nuts or carrots? This is due to cross reactions! Your body confuses certain proteins in food with those of the pollen that you are allergic to.
Food with cross reactions for birch pollen allergy:
- Core & fruit
- Kiwis, strawberries, figs, cakis
- Carrots, celery, raw potatoes
- Hazelnuts, almonds, peanuts
Cross reactions with mugwort and ragweed pollen:
- Bananas, mangoes, lyche
- Zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, pumpkin
- Cashwnuts, pistachios, poppy seeds, honey
- Spices such as pepper, curry, rosemary, thyme
Tip: Many of these allergens are destroyed by heating. Old apple varieties with a high polyphenol content can also be more compatible because they reduce the allergens.
However, a cross allergy does not necessarily have to develop. In any case, it would be sensible to test whether the pollen allergic symptoms are reduced when the cross -energy life is avoided.

How do allergies arise?
About 25% of the population reacts to harmless environmental substances with an excessive immune response. Your body forms IGE antibodies that connect to the allergens and trigger a chain reaction: histamine is released, which leads to inflammation and typical allergy symptoms. But there is also a natural protective mechanism: IgG-4 antibodies. You can prevent an allergic reaction if you are in sufficient quantities. This is exactly the principle of allergy immunotherapy (AIT).
So the problem is in a body's own messenger: histamine. This fabric is released by your immune system if it believes that they have to defend themselves against intruders such as pollen, house dust mites or animal hair. Histamine is actually a useful helper in the body-it controls, among other things, stomach acid production and our sleep-wake rhythm. But if there is too much of it, it becomes uncomfortable. An allergic reaction is basically a misinterpretation of your immune system. It considers harmless fabrics such as flower pollen or animal hair dangerous and reacts with an inflammatory reaction. A large amount of histamine is released, which triggers typical allergy symptoms: swollen mucous membranes, running nose, tearful eyes and itching.

What can you do
Since histamine not only produces the body itself, but is also absorbed through food, your diet can have an impact on your allergy symptoms. Certain foods contain a lot of histamine or ensure that the body releases even more. During the allergy season, it can help to pay attention to a low -histamine diet so as not to drive the histamine level even further.

Which food should you avoid?
Histamine -rich foods: These include mature cheeses, smoked meat, fermented products such as sauerkraut, tomatoes, spinach and certain types of fish.
Histamin liberators: These foods release additional histamine in the body. These include chocolate, strawberries, citrus fruits, alcohol and some spices.

What are the treatment options?
Studies show that many allergy sufferers do without therapy for years - on average it takes 6–9 years to be treated. But this is fatal: without treatment, a harmless hay fever can develop into asthma! The best therapy is of course avoiding the allergens. But that is not always possible - especially not with pollen or house dust. However, there are different treatment approaches:
1. Antihistamines - block the effect of histamine and quickly relieve symptoms.
2. Inhalative steroids - act directly in the airways in the event of severe symptoms.
3. Allergy immunotherapy (AIT)-the immune system slowly gets used to the allergen.
4. Car. Perform intestinal renovation - strengthens the immune system and builds it
⚕️ Allergy immunotherapy
If you want to get rid of your allergy permanently, specific immunotherapy (sit) is a way. Small quantities of the allergen will be fed to you over at least two years to develop a tolerance. A distinction is made between:
1. Subcutaneous immunotherapy (scit) - spraying at the doctor who are administered regularly.
2. Subblingual immunotherapy (Slit) - tablets that are put under the tongue every day.
Advantages and disadvantages:
✔ Spraying will usually not be forgotten because they are administered to the doctor.
✔ Tablets are comfortable for home - but you have to take them regularly!
Good to know:
Nutrients and minerals such as magnesium, zinc, selenium and vitamin C, B12 and B6 are also conducive to a pollen allergy. In particular, vitamin C is considered the histamous gamer. But magnesium also prevents the release of histamine into the bloodstream and can thus weaken the symptoms.
⚕️ Colonation renovation
Since allergies are due to an overreaction of the immune system and 80% of the immune system are in the intestine, intestinal renovation is very useful. The mucous membranes of the entire body are closely connected. This means that when the intestinal mucosa is disturbed, the mucous membranes of the airways are also affected to a certain extent and more susceptible to allergies. Therefore, intestinal renovation should be in the foreground in allergies. You can find how this must be carried out in This Article.

Allergies & health risks
Many underestimate the long -term consequences of allergies. Did you know that you can even increase the risk of osteoporosis & arteriosclerosis (vascular calcification)? Because a study from South Tyrol showed that 18-year-old allergy sufferers have 1.8 times more often arteriosclerosis than healthy. 40-year-old allergy sufferers even 3.8 times more. These connections have been overlooked for a long time, since heart attacks and strokes often only occur decades later.

Conclusion: Don't just let your allergy run!
Allergies are not only uncomfortable, but can also have serious health consequences. But you can do something about it:
👉🏼 1. Find out what you react to what you react.
👉🏼 2. Think about a suitable therapy - short -term & long -term.
👉🏼 3. Think about intestinal renovation and allergy immunotherapy if you want to be free of symptoms in the long term.
If you treat your allergy at an early stage, you can not only get rid of annoying symptoms, but also avoid late consequences. So: do something good for your body and get help!
