Gastric acid deficiency
A contribution by alternative practitioner Edda Federspiel
Too little acidity in the stomach despite the heartburn and acid belching?
Our stomach has the task of having to reduce proteins, harmful pathogens and reduce the cheating for the intestine. In addition, the stomach also produces basic sodium hydrogen carbonate and the intrinsic factor that is responsible for the inclusion of B12.
If there is too few stomach acid, unspecific digestive problems can arise. The lack of stomach acid favors the increase in undesirable intestinal bacteria in the intestine and dysbiosis can arise. In our article we introduce you to how to recognize a lack of stomach acid and what you can do about it.
The symptoms of a gastric acid deficiency can look as follows:
- Flatulence
- Diarrhea
- Feeling full of fullness and stomach printing especially according to protein -rich food.
- Heartburn and acid belching
- Frequent infections
- B12 deficiency
- Mineral deficiency
- Acidification
In these symptoms, acid blockers are often prescribed, although a lack of gastric acid is often the cause, especially with increasing age. If there is enough stomach acid, the gastric porter (sphincter) and the stomach output (pylorus) automatically complete the stomach. The food is mixed with the acid, bacteria are killed, the first digestive processes get started. In the event of a shortage of stomach acid, the gastric porter does not close properly, and the stomach movement can spill up the stomach porridge when mixing the food, which leads to the corresponding symptoms.
For optimal digestion, the enzymes in the mouth of the mouth, the stomach acid, the bile juices and the enzymes of the pancreas are essential. As a result, there are defects here, as a result of a considerable overload of our intestine, the typical irritable bowel symptoms and, among other things, a reduced intake and utilization of vitamins and minerals.
How do I find out whether I suffer from a lack of stomach acid?
- Soda test: Disconnect ½ to 1 teaspoon of soda in a glass of water and drink this mixture sober in the morning, right after getting up. If it comes to a belt in the next 5 minutes or repeated belching, then you probably have no gastric acid deficiency. If nothing happens or you only have a slight belching much later, it indicates a shortage of stomach.
- Beetroot test According to Dr. Spitzer: drink 100 ml beetroot juice. If the urine and stool then turn red or dark, this is an indication of gastric acid deficiency.
- Measurement using nasal probe: This is an elaborate procedure in which the doctor puts a probe over the nose to the esophagus or in the stomach, where it remains over 24 hours. A connected registry device records the measurement results (long-term PH metrus), which are evaluated by computer.
What can I do about a shortage of stomach acid?
- Good chewing and storing the food, eating in peace, avoiding stress (even when cooking).
- Drink something half an hour before eating. If possible, not during or directly after eating so as not to dilute the digestive juices.
- Before eating, bitter substances stimulate the digestive juices, promote fat digestion and can steam the cravings for sweets.
- Bitter plants are available as drops, plant juices or as capsules. I like to look in our Shop after, there you will find Bitter tea, turmeric and different Spice blends With bitter herbs. Even in our Mediterranean herbal salt are partially included.
- Bitter plants such as chicorée, endive salad, dandelion, among other things, often incorporate into the meal plan.
- Betain HCL capsules (often with pepsin) can help with digestion in the stomach, but they only fight the symptoms. It is best to discuss the individual dose with your therapist or test them yourself. Start with 2 capsules to a protein -rich meal. Reduce dose in the event of a burning sensation in the stomach!
- Natural across apple cider vinegar in front of the meal were recommended as home remedies, you should carefully test this in the event of a histamine intolerance.
