Vital substances for the psyche

Maybe you have already experienced that:
You feel without drive, irritated or simply "next to the lane" - and wonder what that could be. For a long time, the connection between our nutrition and physical illnesses such as diabetes or cardiovascular problems was researched. The fact that our mental constitution is closely related to what we eat has only really come into focus for a few years. If certain nutrients are missing - such as amino acids, vitamins or minerals - the entire system comes out of the beat. The good news: you can actively do something to bring harmony back in. We'll tell you how it works.

The anti-fear diet

Fear is part of life - sometimes as a fleeting thought, sometimes as an oppressive feeling in the chest. Everyone knows this: you take care, feel restless or feel like you lose control. In some cases, it can become more of this, for example panic attacks or persistent anxiety. Conversation therapies or medication are often conventional ways to deal with it. You can help, especially in acute phases. But they do not always solve what has come deep inside - and some medication brings risks with them, for example in terms of habituation or side effects.

But what many do not yet know: Your diet also affects your emotional well -being. Certain nutrients influence the chemical processes in the brain - and thus also how you feel. If you are permanently under -supplied with certain amino acids, vitamins or minerals, this can falter your inner stability. By specifically paying attention to what your body needs, you can make an important contribution - without any pressure or rigid rules. Of course, this does not replace any professional help if you have to struggle with fear. But for many it is exactly the missing piece that finally gets something rolling - and that is noticeable.

Psyche and histamine

Stress always arises when our brain classifies a situation as threatening - whether emotionally or physically. If this stress is not broken down, this leads to tension, exhaustion and health problems in the long run. Sometimes we react in everyday situations - be it with conflicts, time pressure or banal triggers such as a ringing phone. The reason for this is often in unconscious memories that automatically put our body on alert. Stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline are released, important body functions such as digestion and cell repair are paused, the immune system is activated, and histamine is released.

Histamine additionally reinforces the stress reaction: it increases the pulse, widens the vessels and keeps the body in the alarm state - a stressful circulation is created. But not only stress increases the histamine level. Conversely, a permanently high histamine value can also trigger psychological symptoms such as fear, irritability or restlessness - without real mental illness. As early as the 1960s, Dr. Carl Pfeiffer opened up the theory that many mental disorders are actually metabolic problems. Today it is clear: Histamine intolerance - also called histplate - can influence the central nervous system and cause psychological complaints. Unfortunately, this is still often overlooked.

Amino acids

Amino acids are an important part of our diet. They are tiny building blocks from which proteins consist of and they can also influence how you feel. Your body needs it to produce so -called neurotransmitter - i.e. messenger substances that ensure that everything runs round in the nervous system. And it is precisely these messenger substances that have a direct impact on your mood, your energy level and your mental balance.

Here are some amino acids as an example:

  • Tryptophan / 5-HTP

    • Preliminary stage of serotonin, the "feel -good hormone"
    • Supports good mood, serenity, better sleep and emotional balance
    • A deficiency can lead to irritability, cravings for sweet, bad mood or sleep problems
    • Additions such as 5-HTP (from Griffonia seeds) can gently raise the serotonin level
  • Tyrosine

    • Forerunner of the catecholamines (dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline)

    • Supports motivation, concentration and mental resilience

    • In the event of exhaustion, lack of drive and irritability through chronic stress, tyrosine can be helpful

    • Even in the event of strong forgetfulness or mood swings
  • Gaba (Gamma amino acid)

    • Most important soothing neurotransmitter in the brain
    • Promotes relaxation, quiet sleep and helps to calm down internally
    • GABA deficiency is often shown by nervousness, excessive demands, muscle tension or relapse problems
    • Can be recorded by both food and as a supplement
  • Phenylalanine (dpa / dlpa)

    • Promotes the production of endorphins, the body's "lucky and pain blockers"
    • Having mood, pain -reducing and stabilizing with emotional sensitivity
    • Can help reduce emotional food

Other important vital substances

  • zinc

    • Supports the nervous system and immune function
    • Is consumed increasingly in the event of stress, intensive movement or high sugar consumption
    • When supplementing, pay attention to quality and individually suitable dosage
  • magnesium

    • Has a calming effect on nerves and muscles
    • Helps with nervousness, irritability, inner unrest and problems
    • Tip: Picked in the evening, Magnesium supports a better sleep
  • B-vitamine (B1, B3, B5, B6, B12, folic acid)

    • Contribute to energy generation, stress resistance and production of important neurotransmitters
    • Particularly important:
      • B1 - supports communication between nerves and muscles
      • B3 - involved in the formation of serotonin
      • B5 - strengthens the adrenal glands, important in the event of permanent stress
      • B6 - necessary for the formation of serotonin and Gaba
      • B12 & folic acid - significant in depression and heart stress
  • Vitamin D

    • It has a mood -enhancing, especially in winter depression and seasonal moods
    • Deficiency is widespread - a blood test brings clarity
    • If necessary, supplement in consultation with the doctor, as with all nutritional supplements
  • Vitamin C

    • Supports the immune system and reduces stress reactions
    • Natural antihistamine!
    • A slight deficiency can contribute to nervousness and inner tension

Successful therapy success despite nutritional supplements

Some people occupy high -quality nutritional supplements, pay attention to a healthy diet and try to compensate for any defects - but the desired effect does not occur. One possible cause why there is no noticeable improvement is in the digestive system: the body simply cannot properly use the absorbed nutrients. Current scientific findings show how closely the connection between intestinal health and psychological well -being is. Many important neurotransmitters - that is, those chemical messenger substances that influence our emotional balance - either arise directly in the intestine or are dependent on the microorganisms based there. An example of this is Gaba, a soothing neurotransmitter that is only formed using certain intestinal bacteria. If these are missing, there may be restlessness, nervousness or anxiety. The intestine also plays a very important role in the production of serotonin. About 95 percent of the amino acid tryptophans necessary for its synthesis are formed in the intestine, including by the bacterium bifidobacterium infantis. If the intestinal flora is weakened or out of balance, this can inhibit serotonin formation - with possible consequences such as pressed mood, listlessness or irritability.

But not only the intestine itself can be a problem. A too low production of gastric acid also affects the splitting of food components, in particular protein, so that essential amino acids are not sufficiently available to the body. The function of the pancreas is just as important: it must provide sufficient digestive enzymes so that fats, carbohydrates and proteins can be processed correctly at all. If this is not the case, many nutrients get through the digestive tract and cannot have a positive effect on the nervous system.

Symptoms in histamine intolerance

  • Heart rhythm disorders
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Palpitations
  • Low blood pressure, high blood pressure
  • Circular disorders
  • In extreme cases: anaphylactic shock

Influence of certain foods on our psyche

Our mood is strongly influenced by what we eat - and above all how well our body can tolerate what we eat. If certain foods are not well tolerated or even trigger an allergic reaction, this can quickly lead to discomfort. Often this is not only evident in the stomach, but also in the form of nervousness, inner restlessness or even feelings of fear. The reason: If the intestinal mucosa is irritated or damaged, it can no longer absorb important nutrients correctly. If the body then lacks certain substances, this affects the mental balance directly. Many affected people report that their mood improves significantly if they do without problematic food.

gluten

In this context, the focus is particularly on products such as wheat, rye and barley. In her work with fear patients, the nutrition expert Trudy Scott observed that their mental state often improved significantly as soon as they stroked gluten from the menu. If you are sensitive to the protein gliadin contained in the grain, you can not only have to fight with digestive problems, but also with mood swings, fears or depressive moods.

The safest way to find out whether you are affected yourself is to leave out gluten -containing food for at least four weeks - and to observe exactly how your own condition changes. This is followed by a targeted test day with gluten to determine possible reactions. Since some symptoms only occur delayed, it is important to take a close look even in the three days after the test. Anyone who finds that Gluten plays a role can switch to well -tolerated alternatives such as quinoa, amaranth, rice or corn - and often benefit from more inner calm and emotional stability after a short time.

Dairy

Dairy products can also cause problems in many people, especially if they are sensitive to gluten anyway. If you suspect not to take milk well, you can also start with a short outlet phase. After a few days, it can be seen whether complaints such as unrest, irritability or digestive problems improve. If this is the case, it is worth avoiding dairy products for about three months and then slowly introducing them - always with a view to your own reaction.

Basically, the following applies: the more natural and high quality the food is, the better for body and soul. Fresh vegetables, if possible in organic quality, high -quality animal products from species -appropriate attitude, as well as healthy fats - for example from avocados, nuts, seeds or cold -pressed oils - form the basis for a diet that not only feeds the body, but also strengthens emotional balance.

Of course, it is not always easy to change your diet. It is all the more important to take your time and also keep an overall lifestyle in view and get professional advice. Errors in property therapy can make a situation worse!

Movement in the fresh air, sufficient sleep, regular relaxation and - if necessary - help psychotherapeutic support to accompany the changes holistically. Methods such as yoga, meditation or breathing exercises can also help to bring body and mind to balance.
